The Garden Design Process
Step 1: Initial Site Meeting
A meeting on site at the beginning of a project discovers three essentials:
- The individual nature of the space.
- The particular requirements of the site and the client.
- The budget’s parameters.
Once we have looked at the site together I will send you details of my costs according to the work involved. If you wish to go ahead with the commission, we will meet to discuss the finer details of the design which I will confirm in a brief.
Step 2 - Site Survey / Sketch Drawings / Final Design
A survey of the site is then carried out. From the survey the proposed scheme and sketch plans of the garden are drawn up and presented to the client for discussion. Any amendments are then incorporated into the final design and layout plans which will be used to construct the garden. I will also provide copies of construction drawings and specifications to the landscaper.
Step 3: Planting Plan
A full planting plan can be provided. A planting plan is the drawing up of an imaginative collection of plants and trees, according to your soil type and style of planting required, to create colour, structure and seasonal interest.
Step 4: Contractors / Build
I will obtain quotes from landscapers/specialists involved and we will meet to finalise hard landscaping details with the chosen landscaper. I can either project manage the build or I can visit the project at intervals.
Step 5: Planting / Completion
Once the hard landscaping is finished, planting will bring the garden to life again.
On completion of the garden periodic visits can be made to carry out maintenance, or I can advise on maintenance.
